Dressed Up Aluminum Patio Cover

There is no need to think of an aluminum patio cover as a basic shade solution. While aluminum patio covers are an excellent shade solution and very low maintenance, by adding some structure and more architectural support, a whole outdoor room is created.

We begin with building a steel beamed structure very much as we do for a variety of fabric patio covers. Steel is virtually impervious to the New Mexico sun, rain, sleet, hail and snow. Steel can be painted like the rich, espresso brown at this home which is in keeping with window and doorway trim. Overhead beams are bolted in place and provide the balance of support for the final aluminum cover. In this case the aluminum is painted white for an open feel and to keep the area below bright and cool. Wiring for a ceiling fan and/or lighting is optional and adds to the versatility of this outdoor space. The only maintenance needed is an occasional brushing to remove cobwebs and grit. This patio cover has a lengthy lifespan which is a big cost savings over time. And it is the perfect set-up to hang patio screens or expand the space with a summertime shade sail.
